Rear window leak 1972 250
Hi all,
I have a problem with my rear window. It's leaking. I can't seam to find a replacement seal. Any options? THanks G |
Get a seal from Tom Hanson at the Classic Center...

only way to fix a leak and do it right is remove, clean replace with new seal. A job best left to pro's and not for the faint of heart
|
You might consider even replacing the glass too. I had a Volvo windshield replaced. Out the door, new window and seal in bout 15 minutes for under $200.

If you need a temporary stop gap try "flowable silicone." It's extremely thin and will flow into the openings that are leaking, so be careful where it drips and don't let it get into any drains, etc. This is not ideal and not the best recommendation, but it will get you through a rainy season if needed.

Thanks everyone.
TNBob, where did you get a quote for $200 for glass & seal? I had a quote for $400 for just the rear seal. Do I need to provide a seal or will they just use something generic? |

It is a quick and temp fix and will give you more time to decided on the actions you wish to take to deal with the problem long term. |

One can PM 500E Gerry and ask him where to get URO seals...
:P :D |
:deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:
Only use quality MB seals if you can find and afford them. :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse: If you want to risk needing to re-do the job multiple times AND you can't afford an MB seal, you can try an aftermarket brand. :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse: Most forum members suggest staying FAR away from URO branded parts. :deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse: If you can't afford the proper seal, deal with the leak until you can. |
My sub $200 price was achieved by making a number of calls to auto glass houses.
Same window perimeters were given in all cases. Quotes came back from the low $700's to the sub $200 I took. Had the car several years with no issues. |

Really love the flow-able silicone seal. Used it 7 months ago on both the front and back windshields...still dry as a bone interior! Why spend so much for new seals (not to mention the labor), when you can fix it quickly and reliably for a whopping 5 bucks (and an hour of your time).
FYI: I used a butter knife to slightly separate windshield from rubber seal (in one hand), and squirted the silicone in with the other. Worked like a charm!!! (Big fan; see attached autozone product) |
