multiple questions needing help

Hello everyone i am new to this forum and to mercedes. I just bought a 1965 220s fintail. I am trying to learn these cars as i have always loved the benz but never picked one up will i finally pulled the trigger. In my search to make the car run better i want to do the basic tuneup stuff. I am trying to find what the compression should be on the car. i have the 2.2l dual carb setup with a auto. I am learning that the cars had so many different options in these years i am getting confused. Any help would be much appreciated. Also if anybody knows where to get a GOOD manual. I dont want to spend 30-50 dollars on a junk manual. I dont mind spending the money as long as the manual is good. Also do i have the 220sb i tried to find a vin decoder but cant find one that will work with 14 digit vin's. Also what year benz front fenders will work? I found a 66 benz for parts and i could use the doors and fenders.

There is only one good manual, and it was put out by Mercedes, coincidentally.

Try eBay. The Big Blue Books pop up occasionally. Also CD or DVD versions. They also appear on the For Sale forum here once in a while.

I just contacted the MB classic center and Tom is sending me a CD of the manual for my 72 280sel. I am not sure what he has for other models but you can try him. I got a MB manual on disc for $25. Only issue is that he told me that the CD works with OS from XP back he said that some folks have told him that they got it to work on more modern OS but he can't tell you it will work with newer windows OS. just an FYI I got lucky as I was goint through some old crap I had an old laptop running Windows 98 so I will use this for the car.

Me too. They won't work. Some have had luck with complex workarounds, but the good ol' paper book works wonders on my 108. I lucked out and inherited one from a very helpful fellow board member...

I'm also S-O-L with MB's CDs and even EPC/StarTek

I got my CD from Tom and it wont run on my Vista machine. it asked me to load adobe reader 4 so I will try it on my old windows 98 laptop and see if it will run. It did have instructions for a mac so you might get it to run but may need to use an older OS but I am just guessing.

Hey guys, I believe the issues with Mac are primarily for the EPC not the CDs. I have a MacBook and I can view the CD after simply dragging the files to my computer then opening them from my desktop, so I never actually even use the CD anymore aside from being a potential backup. It wasn't difficult at all so good luck.
