HELLO ALL,

I'm looking for an engine electrical diagram for a 1976 mercedes 450 SL. I'm trying to troubleshoot a non starting problem. I'm getting fuel up to the high pressure pump but the car will not start. My other email address is (mnmstanton@cox.net)

Quick checks....

Is the engine turning over when you hit the starter? If yes, then your trouble is either fuel or spark.

To determine which shoot some starter spray into the air cleaner. Try to start the engine. If it fires and runs for a second and then dies then you are getting spark but no fuel. If it does not start at all then you have an ignition problem.

This will not solve all your problems, but it will sure narrow them down.

And since this is a 1976... Does the car have thermal reactors? It could be that your reactors have broken down or that your cat converter is plugged up. Either condition will allow the engine to start and run but not for long.
