Can anyone tell me more about these cars?

Recently bought one and planning to use it for the daily 20Km commute. I know the 2.8 DOHC engine will not give great mileage, but it is one sacrifice I will make.

Any personal experiences with this or the 280 C Coupe'?

Any recommendations for replacing the old radio with a classy looking front loader ?

Can I make the suspension stiffer ? Not lower.

Regards

I have not owned a 280CE, but I have had four 250C's - same body, and a 280E (M110 engine).

The major problem that I had with this chassis was that the center driveshaft bearing was worn and shuddered on acceleration.

Be sure to take a close look at the trunk floor under the mat after a rain as the trunk seal is prone to leak which will cause rust very quickly.

Also pull up the carpets and look for any sign of leakage around the windows, etc.

You also need to watch out for leaks in the rear differential. If the seal needs to be replaced, have it done by an experienced shop, as it is easy to get the adjustments wrong, causing an extremely annoying whine from the rear end.

With regard to the engine, I spent a lot of money trying to cure a rough idle. Replacement of most of the injection system made for only a slight improvement. It also started hard when warm - it was fine when cold or hot, and no one could figure that out.

The valve guides also wear and cause a bit of smoke and oil consumption in the 1 qt per 500 mile range, so don't panic if this happens.

Check the Tech posts for a variety of troubles that a guy in New Zealand had with his M110.

Great car - have fun and stay in touch!

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the info I will keep it in mind and give the car another once-over.

I am planning to take it on a 1000 km journey , just to get a feel for the car. I think it is happiest on the open road.
