Does anyone drive a W111 coupe?

I took my 280SE 3.5 coupe out ofr a spin last night and the clock was completely dark! Is there supposed to be a bulb in the clock? If so, would there need to be a separate connection fromm the headlamp switch to turn on the little bulb, as opposed to the clock being lit all the time??

Indeed there is a bulb back there. I believe it can be accessed from underneath the dash unless you have a Kuhlmeister A/C unit in the car. Let me have a look see on my 250SE and I'll see if I can give you more details.

Thanks, Aaron. I also heard that the bulb is built into the side of the clock, and since my glove box is still uninstalled it will be easy to R/R the clock to check for its existence.

I suspect you must pull out the clock and replace the bulb from the back, if this is like all the fintail clocks, which I suspect it is.

I pulled my clock and voila! A hole on teh side where a bulb used to be. When I shake the clock the remnants of the bulb (base) rattle around. Any ideas what bulb I should order and where to get it from (the dealer is probably clueless)? If someone wants to mail me the correct bulb I'll send you a couple bucks in return mail..

I suspect bulb number 1891 might fit. Alternatively, I have several original equipment bulbs for dash lights that might fit. I believe the clock and instrument bulbs are the same. I live in the DC area too, so email me your phone number and I'll call you to schedule a meeting.
