1974 280C Transmission Fluid
I blew a transmission hose going to the radiator, which I am about to replace. Since I lost some fluid I decided it was time to change the filter also. My question concerns what type of transmission fluid should I use to top it off. I did not drain the torque converter.
Thanks |

Do drain the torque converter.
Dexron II ATF if you can find it.

Dextron III should be fine and readily available. As suggested, drain the torque converter too as most of the fluid lives there. You should be able to rotate the torque converter in small increments from under the car while the engine is off by using a screw driver to move it along. The drain plug is usually located about 300 degrees from whichever direction you decide to turn.
