Seat interchangeability

Working on a W114 at present (1969 model 230-6) and needing seats. Not finding them so easily. Was wondering what models and years of seats interchange with this body style. I tried to fit seats from a W110 fintail, looks like a different frame setup, won't bolt in.
Any advice for what years and models to hunt for in the classifieds and boneyards would be appreciated. Thanks.

The seat interchange within the W114/W115 class cars. This gives you a pretty broad range to look for.

Only exception is that the coupe seats are unique from the sedans, both front and rear.

Also, if you can find the earlier seats (pre 73), they have better padding and more durable covers. Early seats have a leather grain, later seats have a pebble grain. Door cards are different as well. Early style has a recess for the vent window and a hole for the knob, late style are straight at the door window edge, but can be fettled to work on the earlier version.

MB tex change from leather grain to pebble grain also changed on the dash and door cards.

Thanks Jim. Good advice. Just what I needed to spur on the hunt for the interior. I have found the door panels now, they are dark brown and have a leather grain effect. I need the tops though, they are ABS plastic and snap on the top of the door after the door panel is installed. And both pre-73 year front sedan seats dark brown color preferred, with the rear seat to match. Let me know if you see anything in Tidewater area - that's not too far for me to drive down with my pickup to fetch parts.

I believe the rails are all flat so interchangeability should be easier to figure out.

A guy on these forum put Honda Odyssey captain chairs in his. I would love to find a manual W124/W126 coupe seat to cover in a pleated vintage style red leather. Standard seats are too short for me.

Yes, I put two rear bucket seats from a Honda Odyssey van in my 69 w115 - leather and I love them. Very similar in size/proportion to a benz.

I live in AZ and could pick them up, I also got a great deal from the guy and did not need the center seat. I was able to strip the extra seat parts and bolted them to the stock benz hard points - they slide for and aft etc. and work great.

Hi Topher,

Any pics with the seats installed.

I have tan w114 MB tex for all my seats (taken from a later model). I always wanted tan (camel color) leather seats, but could never figure out what fits what. I love MB tex, but the smell of leather is something that can't be duplicated.

I don't know if seats from a 108 would fit or not. I did once manage to cram the rear seat from a 108 into a 115. It was very tight, but it fit and looked great.

Topher,

So you were able to bolt these Honda Odyssey seats into the W115 without modifications? Nice. I would also love to see photos if you could post them.
Thanks.

Jub, if you decide to do this Odyssey upgrade, keep in touch, I may be interested in your old seats. I live not far from DC & could pick them up.

W114 seats

We have a complete, reupholstered interior from a W115 300D if that would help you. Located near San Antonio, Texas. Really very nice condition, Dark tan color.

PM if interested.

If you remove the height adjustment from a 123 seat and install a 2 inch spacers instead, you can use this seats in a 115.
I put 123 seats in two 115s so far.

That is good to know, but I would bolt them in with some class 8 bolts so they will not shear off in case of an accident. That two inch gap takes out a lot of support that is called upon during a smash-up.

Not trying to be scary, just practical. Class 8 bolts are not that expensive, and if you really want to bolt something down a company called Unbreako makes bolts with a shear strength of 300,000 pounds.

Class 8 sounds standard.
The threaded holes to bolt the seats down are metric M8.
You may want to use a M8 bolt with a 10.9 rating.
