W108 Maintenance

so i am new to old cars to be honest, just want to get that out of the way to defend any stupid questions that may come from me.

i recently purchased a '72 280SEL

i had some questions, the first basic maintenance. i was told to use only copper plugs? i did a little research and i noticed that some people are recommending the NGK over the Bosch OEM? are copper plugs the only ones i can truly run or should run in this?

thanks for any help

On stock ignition, copper plugs with NO RESISTOR are the way to go. On aftermarket ignitions, you can use resistor plugs, but they should STILL be copper! The older engines don't burn or spark as hot OR as cleanly as modern ones, so platinum plugs will foul. If you get an aftermarket system AND a souped-up coil like a flamethrower, you may be able to try Platinum plugs. NGK is recommended because it's much easier to find the non-resistor NGK copper plugs than it is to find the Bosch ones.
