Light weight CLK wheels

Add a Mercedes Dog Dish style hub cap

And you get this look so far (Still needs refinish and body matching paint)

Scott, I have been getting to know this car a bit more and so far I've been pleasantly surprised.......

Yesterday, I i had my fist back seat passenger, she tried to tilt the back of the front seat forward so she could get out of the back seat. It would not move, I'm thinking this is odd as I have tilted this seat forward several times, so I then she pushed on the drivers side, same issue the seat back would NOT tilt forward, she was stuck in the back seat.

Then I remembered what you said with the car running the seat backs will not just tilt forward, so I had her push the little black button on the back panel and walla now she could tilt the seat forward and exit the car !

So my vacuum system is working for the seats.

The coupes little black button .....

Also I friend told me to check my windshield washer pedal (rubber bellows) to see if it was working. He said .... It's a manual foot pump that pushes air pressure out to the washer reservoir through a rubber line (which will likely need to be replaced due to age). From there it gets pushed to the windshield. Quite often the rubber bellows on the underside of the pump fails from age, and the lines often break.

So I tested it out and its also working !!

windshield washer pedal....

Yep, my old 71 250CE had an electric pump but with a pedal operated switch in the same place.

A little progress on the wheels, this is the look so far (Still need refinish the wheel lips, paint the wheel center with body matching paint and mount the hubcap)

I'm planing to mount the hubcaps to the wheels using these clips...

Hubcap clip kit

Are you going to rivet the clips on or drill and tap the aluminum wheel? I don't believe the rivets are long enough to go through the wheel.

That is a cool idea of mounting the Dog Dish hub caps. I thought about doing that to a set of the Light Alloy wheels (Pressed Aluminum). then thought they would also look good on a set of these CLK Wheels. I found this picture doing a search on Google For Dog Dish HC`s.

Looks good what you are doing.

Before you drill and add the clips, read through this thread. The old SL Pagoda people are using these light alloy wheels, and one of the guys sourced some of the pins that were used to hold the Dog dish caps on.

AL 14" Rims - "Heckflosse" hubcap mounts

The Pins are still available, Part# 110-401-01-74. they are $2.20 ea from the dealer, but found them at www.benzpartswholesale.com for $1.76. the dealer in Monterey, Ca.

Thansk for the post, yes I read about the pins and at first I was going to use them, but then I read thru all of that post and others. In the end I went with the clips, here is why .....

Pins vs Clips from what I have read....

- Pins are very simple BUT they are smooth so you have to thread them and you have to MAKE SURE that they are all 3 installed in exactly the right spot.

- Clips are more forgiving if installed slightly wrong.

Here is what one guy said from the 190sl forum, I am thinking he did not install his pins in exactly the right spot ......

I have a set of 15 inch wheels that I installed those pins .They are terrible . If I were doing it again I would use the clips.
The pins will ruin the hub caps ,Because the hub cap has to stretch to fit . Where the clips spring metal gives to fit .
Also my hub caps will spin on the pins . Just my opinion .For what it's worth .
