Plug Wires
Random question about plug wires...
I just bought some new plug wires for my w108 280s and I am curious on the "fit" of the wire end to the plug. They have the longer exposed metal sleeves that connect onto the plugs but dont seem to really grasp the plug end very well. For the lack of a better term, I currently have "conventional" wires that plug snugly onto the plugs. I havent come across these types of wires before. Will they work correctly and actually stay on? |

Do your plugs have smooth tips, approx "3/16 diameter, at the ends where the plug wire connects? The Bosch plugs often found on these cars have removeable tips so they can be used with OE German plug-wires, or 'conventional' plug-wires? Look down your new plug-wire ends to check the size of the plug terminal.
You may need to remove the smooth tips on your plugs in order to use those OE-style plug wires. as those wires should have terminals that fit the threaded stud that remains when you take off the removeable plug-tips. If your plugs don't have removeable tips, you'll need to get some that do, to use those new wires. Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks Mark,
I have NGK plugs...currently they have the smooth tips. So your telling me that I can (if possible) just unscrew that little nub off and then hopefully the new wires should link right up? I have messed with plugs before and had always wondered why the nub would unscrew. Seemed dumb at the time but now it makes sense. Last edited by n10; 01-28-2014 at 04:34 PM. |
