Question about Transmissions?

Sorry to post this. I'm not sure where to find the info I need though.

I'm looking at buying a 1979 Mercedes 300SD. The transmission is toast on it.

I have a good Transmission from a 1972 Mercedes 220 W115. IT has very low miles on it and shifted great before the engine dropped a valve.

Will This tranny work in the 300SD? I can pick up the SD for next to nothing. I'd like to use it as a cheap commuter car.

Thanks

Oh a couple pictures of my W115. Its getting a 305 V8 and 700R4

well after the engine died I lowered the front. Then started ripping it apart.

Engine and Tranny Combo. Needs cleaning, Cam, Intake, Headers, Carb

Old Motor and Tranny are out

sawtooth:

The two transmissions are physically interchangeable; if the 220 was a gasser, then the valve body, governor, and modulator parts would have to be taken from the diesel trans and installed in the one from the gasser.

The V8 makes a much easier installation in the W116 chassis than in the W115.

The only practical way I know of doing a transmission swap such as this is to sell the good transmission you have that does not fit and use the money to buy a good used transmission that does.

I am not trying to be snarky here. This really is the best route to take because somewhere out there is someone that needs your transmission just as it is and someone else is trying to decide on what to do with the transmission that you need which is currently only taking up space in their shop.

thanks for the help.

Are 300 SD's with 200K worth anything fixed up? Dude is asking $800 for it. I don't think its worth that much. it has some ugly wire wheels, mouse crap inside.

Why do you think the transmission is toast? What is it doing?

I would need to see photos of the sd, but they are rare....not many left on the road. 800$ is a good price depending on condition, I would do it....but again would need photos of it...

Yeah. This guy is a farmer and thinks his crap is golden.

I found an 81 gasser about 8 hours away in my home town for $1000. Pristine condition. Needs a rear window though. I may swoop that up.

Man run away from that mouse turd crap. Good car for the P & P, worth about $150.00 unless it can be driven there. It's junk!
