w108 dreaded power window malfunction

A few months ago my Benz started having the typical w108 power window problem - the window won't go up all the way, the last 1-2 cm it just bounces.
Sigh...
Since I had to take the door panel off the install a right side mirror (I had a convex glass cut for it by a local glass shop) I figured I might as well look at the window regulator.
It turns out that the potmetal frame that holds the motor and the regulator is sort of twisted and the motor's gear was only overlapping ~50% of the teeth on the large gear that moves the window. I took the motor off, put the whole thing in the wise and bent it back as best I could, being careful not the break it! I also rotated the motor's gear so different teeth are in contact at the very end of the travel. I put it all back and so far it works. I do not know for how long...
bye,

I don't remember exactly what the pot metal frame looks like, but if you ever have it out again, see if you can bolt a piece of reinforcing steel to the member that got bent. It is, as you noted, a weak part in the design...

there's a thread at m-100.cc that was just active last week from a guy that hand cut fresh gear teeth. A little bit of machinist know-how goes a long way when working with unobtanium. -CTH
