Windlace Options

I am in the process of replacing my headliner and am stuck with a delima...

The original windlace (fabric) is shot. I dont really want to pay an arm and a leg for MB windlace.
Has anyone used generic snap-on windlace (Snap on Windlace Black) or maybe even just gone with the original aluminum trim back in with no rubber or fabric?

I know its not "the way to go" but I am looking at options at the moment.

Windlace Fabric

You can get the original sytle windlace fabric from dbdepot.de

Go to the W108/W109 Spare parts page and look under Rubber Seals. Towards the bottom of the rubber seals page you will see the cloth for edge gaurds (windlace) and it is available in many original colors.

Yes the fabric is kind of like a stocking and the aluminum channel fits into it. There are metal clips in the U section of the aluminum channel that you have to remove first. Make sure you note where each clip is located so they can be replaced exactly where they are removed from. After the clips are removed then the old cloth can be removed and the new cloth fit over the aluminum channel. Put the clips back in and then you can put the recovered windlace channel back on the car.

On a related note, the same parts are listed for Fintails under the Covering and Lining tab. Super cool!

Had the same experience. They also sell items on eBay.de .

Keep us posted, I've got to redo my windlace sometime soon.

I currently have just the black rubber on my 240D. It actually looks pretty good since it matches the black dash and is a nice contrast with the bamboo seats. I'm not sure if I will ever re-cover them.

Did you end up gluing the rubber on the aluminum strips?

I went to JoAnn fabrics and bought a compatible color knit and had my neighbor sew the "sock". I think I had to buy seven feet of fabric. Alot of waste, and not original, but pretty cheap.
