pintail cars in Sun Valley, CA
 

Just thought I'd pass along that last Saturday I was at U-Pick, a junk yard in Sun Valley (LA area, off the Penrose exit from the 5 freeway), and saw 2 pintail cars (the ones with fins, whatever the correct term is) parked next to each other. Both are white, and are pretty rough, but MOST of the parts appeared to be there. Not very much rust that I could see. Red interior on the convertible car. At least one of them is a gas-engine 220.

FYI, they are called Fintails; the German term is Heckflosse, which means "rear fin" or in the case of the car, "tail fin".

They are also called "Finnies" by Brits.

I have owned a few: very solid, staid cars, only the very large ones are quick, but with care they will last for eons.

Just to clarify, there is NOT a W111 Convertible at U-pick. There is a 196x 190 SEDAN that has had the roof completely cut off, and a 1960 220b sedan. No temp senders, no radios, no great interior parts. The 220b has OK-ish black vinyl seats.

Whew!

The antennae were twitching when I read convertible in the OP.....

Fearing that perhaps I missed something, I went back yesterday to make sure that there is no coupe there. There isn't. Two sedans, lots of stuff gone. Not much really there.

I was there today and there is no coupe or convertible. There is a four door sedan Fintail at the Ecology Center in Rialto, Ca
