72 280se 4.5 shocks...??

I'm preparing to put on my steel wheels I finally found. The car needs new shocks. What I'm wondering is, what would the norm be that would most likely need to be done? This way I might be able to decipher if the mechanic isn't trying to get over on me.. Thank you all for any info

Replacing the shocks on this car is a pretty normal thing. I would go with BOGE since they were the OEM. At least get some gas shocks if you want the best ride.

If you are wondering if there are other suspension parts that will need replacing then the answer is, if shocks are all you need, no. But the 108 suspension is different from most cars and there are many things that can be replaced if you want to.

The question is: Are the replacements really needed?

You can easily put the shocks on yourself and see how the ride and handling is after that. If it does not feel right then you could have the rest of the suspension looked at by someone who understands what they are looking for.
