I think that part is just a cover and they are not the padded dash. I wonder if the Cordovan brown is tha same color as my brown dash pad if so this might be the only way to go as I have not been able to source an OEM part

If anyone knows of a source for these or a brown upper dash pad Please chime in

thanks
I see these on ebay. They are listed as "brown" but look more like Cognac to me...

Those are definitely cognac and not brown as they have listed.

Those do look like they are what I ma looking for. Mine are not bad but are so brittle that if you bang or bump into them the crack like the upper dash pad. at $300 I would like to see them in person. I know finding them local will be hard. the missing attachment points is another issue I am not sure if it is a big deal or not but would hate to buy them and then they don stay on right. I will ask questions and see if I get good answers.

Geen:

Would you mind telling me what the missing attachement points are on the door caps. What do they look like and what are they made of?

thanks,
Napster

Revision:

I looked at the ebay listing again and saw the metal attachment clips and noticed one of the caps was missing a couple of them.

got a reply from the seller:

"Material is in good condition and not brittle. Loose attachment points are included and can be reglued to the caps"
Not sure I can go for these without seeing them in person and knowing that they will work. so I will keep looking

Can the door caps be recovered? I have the cognac interior color which is next to impossible to paint on. I was thinking if I got a set of doors caps in another color and carefully peeld/scraped off the vinyl covering. Then glue some new cognac vinyl covering over them. I would try this or more likely give it to a trim shop to do for me.

What do you guys think.

That is what I am looking into also. I do not have the fabric but I was thinking that a auto interior place could recover the door caps if I could get the cognac MB tex. Any ideas on a sorce for the MB tex in cognac? I am always on the lookout for donor seats /car ect. If I find anything close I might go for it. I have seen some cars that have a brown that matches the dash on the door caps I dont like how it looks but using it as a contrast color that also matches the dash and the other panels in the car might work for some folks.

This is the place my vinyl was bought from. I did not buy it. When I purchased the car I had the seller do some work on it prior to shipping it to me. This was a leftover piece that he ordered but did not end up using.

i purchased the caps in that ebay listing, the attachment points were a breeze to re-attach as they are just hooks that are bent into the "foam" to mount. i have looked for almost a year to find good condition SEL caps and let me tell you... not an easy find. i talked the seller down to $170 shipped which made the deal even sweeter. they came just as described, i only needed driver side caps so i have the passenger side but just contemplating letting them go just because they were such a challenge to find.

which caps do you need geen?

the two i used

Would you please explain the hook attachments in more detail. I have seen several sets of door caps on Ebay that had the metal hooks not attcched to the door cap. I thought that this would mean they would have to be glued back on to the door cap. Is there a slit for the metal hook to slide into the door cap?

thanks.

they are like the clasps/loop on a pair of slacks, they have points that go into the fabric and are curled/bent in to stay attached to the fabric.

look at the left piece in this picture for reference, those points just get bent in

these are the mounts that come off, after that they are just clips the pop in and out of a slit on the actual door. i'll try and get some pictures when i get home
