Odd indeed. Yes to 2-tone horn, no to reading lights... Hmmm. Maybe custom orders are custom, and dealer orders are more standard... I can't say.

For those wonder what a "seat adapter" is, it's the term Mercedes used for a center cushion that fits in the center console tray that can be used as a seat bottom and the front seat armrest(s) serve as the seat back. No seat belt is provided for this little death-trap option.

Yeah, the seat adapters are unusual in the US but not nearly as unusual as something like the two-tone horn. I have a nice collection of seat adapters that I'm trying to catalog and identify by part number related to car model / year but it is difficult because of the changes over the years. I have 3 center adapter cushions for the one console I have from a 1970 280 SE but the console isn't necessarily the same

Here are a few pictures. The plastic tray with holes for power window switches is from a 1970 280 SE and includes the black cushion sitting in the tray (and also came with the armrests that are partially in the picture. The picture also contains the same cushion in brown and in parchment. The parchment one is new. The other pictures show some of the minor variations between different seat adapters. Of particular interest are the two middle adapters in the row of 4. Notice how similar they are in shape, yet different.
