Sold My Beloved 240D Today

It is with great sorrow that I parted with my beautiful little vintage benzo today.

I really enjoyed the coast rides with Rich and Dennis, saw some terrific stuff and met some great people. This forum was an invaluable source of information and inspiration.

Really enjoyed taking care of the old car too, it was definitely a collector car. So it has been passed along to an elderly gent that is a collector of Mercedes Benz's so I was happy about that. And he didn't bat an eye at paying what it was worth - you guys with the cream-puffs those cars are going to be worth a LOT of money one day.

Thanks and sort of a bidding farewell here too. Maybe I'll get another old Benz down the road. And I do have a few parts and tools I'll have to put in the classifieds as well.

I was hoping not to see this, but Tristan made me look.

Well, it was a beautiful car. I'm glad to have met you (both here and in person), don't be a stranger around here.

I remember you said you're a photographer, so I hope this is a fitting tribute.

Oh yes - evil laugh - I made you look - whoa ha ha ha ha! You must look - do not deny the truth...

...er OK silliness over and done with for today(perhaps).

As always great pictures Patrick - but I get the feeling you're often lucky with that Californian light - still a car like that would probably look just as good in our pouring rain.

I wish we got more rain! Yes, I had to look.

Yes, CnC Irvine. This set was for the MB SL special, lots of MB's came over (SL or not).

Where are you located? I haven't been to CnC in ages. My friend with a 240D goes there. James is also around with his mint 240D in the same paint code as mine. Some local 190SL owners too are regulars.

If i do that i might as well turbo it because I'm crazy like that. I'm not good enough at wiring to build a ms board myself.

Maybe i should lt1/4l60e swap it. No,I'm not a purist bwahaha. (4.5 450sel)

Thank you Patrick, those were nice pics you took - the best I've seen of the car. I need to save them off to my photobucket.

Patrick's pics were from the 125 year MB Anniversary, one of the weekends all the local old cars met at cars and coffee, then to Classic Center for an outstanding tour, then to Crevier classics for an open house. What a fantastic day of 'old cars'.

We really enjoyed the outings, seeing the collections, day trips, and such. Gonna miss that.

We needed the $$, wifey has been working on again off again and finally got a good gig but it takes awhile to ramp up. I could see the writing on the wall with money coming in and money going out and asked her what she was gonna do about paying the bills. She's not much of a planner - was like, "I dunno, didn't think about it." Uhm, okay. I better sell something and raise some cash.

I go down for C&C Irvine quite often, this time thought I would put a 'for sale' sign on the seat that morning a few weeks ago and was walking the show. By 8am I had three serious buyers. What the hell? One of them is a local collector some likely know and he wanted to add it to his collection. Which made me happy because I didn't want to see it go to someone that wanted a driver. It's is much too nice of a car to be driving it around. Sure, once in awhile to keep it exercised, but to pile miles on it and really use it, and risk a collision, etc., was just too much for me to bear.

I did get what I thought was a LOT of $$ for a little diesel 4-door sedan. So I was happy about that too.

Thanks again for neat photos and all the great comments.

BTW, I have 5 of the stock steel wheels off it if anyone needs a wheel. I had put the factory black alloys on the car when I first got it, and they went with the car. I also have a set of the Hazet valve adjust tools. PM me if you're interested in either.

From the day-trip to Peterson's, I'm fourth from the left:
