71 220D accelerator linkage

Mine came undone after a long trip...I coasted into a safe spot and drove home with vice grups on the cable...about 30 miles hand throttle...I just can't figure out hows its connected or find a diagram...**** google. I know its simple but I'm not sure how the cable attaches to pedal or how it fell apart...linkage under hood is fine...

This is covered (more or less) in the W123 FSM - well there's reference to the W115

It might not get to the bit you want but it is worth a look at the W123 FSM that is available for free on www.startekinfo.com

Use Windows and internet explorer and there's a chance their dodgy website will work for you.

On the left hand side menu choose workshop resources then click on the CD/DVD option. Find the W123 book. Choose a 240D as your car type - early year option.

Good luck.

At the link below, navigate to Main Function Group 30 (Accelerator Control) and there will be several Sub-Function Groups that may help. Sub-function groups 300, 310, 320, 330, and 340 all pertain to the linkages, so hopefully one of them will help. The images are poor but hopefully you can make out what you need.

I figured it out thanks! Took 30 seconds...in the dark and rain when I broke down I didnt look at left side of engine where a control linkage had screwed itself all the way out and was dangling..I drove home using the idle control cable which has never worked...I mistakenly assumed it was throttle cable. No wonder I couldnt figure out how it was supposed to connect to pedal...it never did. Feel like an idiot. I'll blame it on the rain and dark :-) .
