Gooseneck mirror retaining rings...

Is there a source for just these plastic rings? I have the mirrors, I have the frames. I just need the plastic retaining rings.

Are these NLA?

Classic Center ought to be able to fix you up or any dealer if you give them the part number.

Hi Idle,

Is this for a W111? W108? You said mirrors (plural), so that means two... My W111 sedan only came with one outside mirror.

The part number for the plastic retaining ring on the earlier goose neck design is: A0008110165. It is still available through the dealer or Bud's Benz | Mercedes Benz, Mini, BMW, Parts Service & Restoration for $18.00.

This is for the W111. I was looking at these and think that if I just turn one over it might work as a right hand side mirror. No convex glass, of course, but a mirror just the same.

This was common at the time with Porsche and I have done this on 914's. I figured it was a common thing with all German cars and was just designed in.

It won't take much to find out, but I have learned that the left hand and the right hand mirrors are considered to be two different part numbers.

I have found one source for the rings at $17.00 each, but contacting the Classic Center might be the way to go on this if I want real Mercedes quality. The last rings lasted over 40 years so hopefully you get what you pay for.

The part number I gave you is for left or right and fits many chassis. Goose neck design was used up to July 1967.

Thanks. I will get with Bud's. I would rather buy from a known source on something like this.

Thanks again!

The interesting thing is that the mirror part (chrome housing, glass, retainer) is exactly the same as the Vitaloni mirror used on Fiat 124 Spiders up to 1978. The base is different. So I wonder if this mirror was of Italian manufacture.

Well my experience with Bud's Benz, along with being a fellow Georgian that hears a lot about them......they typically use MB parts unless the OEM is exactly identical in quality...and then they may still offer both (with one as a reproduction). I can always count on their "flair" with authenticity!! I can't say that about all on line vendors! Let's just say I enjoy doing my own homework!!
