M130 Valve Adjustment

All the valves on my 1970 250c are really tight.

Is there a way to remove the rocker arms without buying a spring compressor tool?

How many turns is there on the ball pin before there is no more adjustment? Most of the valves I can't even get a the thinnest feeler gauge in between.

What is the alternative "thrust piece" if there is no more adjustment or do you replace the rocker arms?

Hey Erik250c,

Are you sure you are using correct size feeler's (correct decimal points, etc)?

Valve springs do need to be compressed to remove cam followers.

Re: Ball Studs
Have you turned the ball studs at all? How many turns have you taken? Did you have the heel of each cam lobe on the follower when you attempted to check the clearance?
If the geometry, involving the stud/follower/thrust piece combination, has not been disturbed, there will be enough travel available in the ball stud for any clearance adjustment. The ball studs have right hand threads, so clockwise rotation will increase clearance.

Thrust pieces are available in various thicknesses, and are used to set the original geometry, i.e., the angular relationship between the tip of the valve, the follower, the heel of the cam lobe, and the ball stud.

Double checked on the feeler gauge and I'm using the correct sizes (.007 Ex and inlet .003)

I'm checking the clearance with the long part of the camshaft lobe straight up.

Tighten only one inlet to gain more clearance and will no longer turn and clearance is still to tight. It was hard turning so maybe I need to loosen and try again or get a socket on it.

Is it possible to depress valve spring by prying with a screw driver to remove rocker?

I was able to get a valve spring compressor from a friend which works great. I'm able to get a socket on the ball stud and get the clearance.
