64 220seb auto column shift won't budge.

Car starts right up. Can't engage the auto tran column shifter. Is there a brake pedal interlock on this old of a car?

Any idea where to start?

Thx

I'm mostly familiar with the column-shift manuals, which had an interlock to prevent accidentally engaging reverse.
First try to pull the lever back towards you. Or out - like trying to pull the lever straight out of it's socket - to get it out of park.

Happy Motoring, Mark

You have to pull the lever toward you (backward). If there is some play in the bushings it may feel like you pulled the lever back, when in fact you just moved it enough to get all the play out. Try pulling a little harder, see if it comes farther back, and then down.

50 yer old grease hardened and won't budge.
My guess is that the car sat for a long time in (extreme) cold. (Unfortunately you DID NOT ADD A LOCATION TO YOUR PROFILE !).
Forcing it would just snap the plastic bushings that are 50 years old too.
Try wd40 on the balls and pivot points at linkage (engine compartment below the firewall.

In the long run it all needs to come apart, be cleaned, reassembled with new bushings and greaseD again.

Good Luck,
these don't get attention, because of the awkward location and they're a PIA
