Diesel powered 108 on Ebay....

I have nothing to do with this. I just thought it was interesting.

The engine appears to have come from a station wagon since it has the pump on the front for the rear hyrdoshocks. The engine is a non-turbo, the car is in Maine.

I was wondering a year or so if this could even be done. Apparently it can....

Just curious, is that a Mercedes paint color or has the car been re-painted?

Looks like a repaint since the door jambs are a different blue.

Or perhaps it is just very, very faded.

Run away! Far, far, away.

It's only got 68K miles on it and the original engine was replaced?

What does a Hagerty price have to do with any part of this car?

"I PURCHASED THIS CAR WITH THE INTENT OF RESALE FOR PROFIT, AND NO OTHER PLANS" pretty much tells the story.

I have actually run across a number of SE from this era that had engines quit at less than 50,000 miles. Or so it was thought....

The fuel injection system was so complex that few people then could understand it and the only place to have it repaired was the dealer. An estimate would usually make the owner think twice and then some well meaning friend would suggest they repair it themselves.

These things never ended well.

So the engine might be in great shape but it still would not run.

But I have also seen more than a few of these that blew a head gasket at less than 70,000 miles. That was back then, of course.

LOL, I like it. But I'm in the process (meaning the car is on a truck coming from Portland to Los Angeles and I've paid for it) of buying a 66,000 mile 280SE rust bucket because it has some really good parts and $56,000 (literally) in receipts. $46,000 of the receipts are within the last 7 years/20,000 miles. Documented engine rebuild, injection pump, etc. But the owner decided to throw in the towel because the frame is too rusted, so it's my parts car for my Fintails... (engine, driveshaft, rear end, LOTS of stuff I can use).

I thought about putting a turbodiesel in my 220S fintail but decided against it. But I would definitely put a rebuilt M130 in it...
