'75 240d Blower motor runs when ign. is on... Won't turn off.

Hey guys...

Slowly plugging through all the electrical bugs on my 240d. Spent the day yesterday cleaning grounds and fuse blocks...

Now a problem I haven't been able to get sorted.. The blower motor in the center of the dash below the radio runs all the time when the ign. switch is in the 2 position. It shuts off with the ignition switch but none of the factory controls will shut it down.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
-Chris

Hey Chris,

Is the fan that's constantly running for sure the one down in the console, and not the one mounted up in front of the dash? That console fan is associated with the AC system, and it recirculates the interior air rather than drawing fresh air into the car like the heater fan does.

I wonder if you have a switch not working correctly, either the AC switch in the console or the fan switch in the center dash panel.

This blower is the one mounted directly below the radio... above the power window switch panel.

Sounds like the AC fan is the one running. It's only supposed to run when the key is "on", the AC thermostat knob is turned clockwise from off, and the main fan switch in the center dash panel is in position I, II, or III.

EDIT - There are two fans, one for fresh ventilation/heat and another for recirculating the AC air. Both of the fans are controlled by the same switch, the fan switch in the center dash panel. The AC knob/switch in the console above the radio switches the system between the two fans (uses vacuum to move stuff around in the dash/console).

Check to make sure the plastic knob on the AC switch isn't stripped and unable to turn the actual switch all the way CCW to off.

The fan(s) running all the time is another issue. It leads me to think there is a separate issue with the main fan switch, its wiring, etc.
