Drive Axle Boots
 

In order to avoid the dreaded axle boot replacement, I occasionally treat them to a generous amount of silicone spray to keep them soft. This morning I just noticed that the clamps are not the typical MB original crimp type but screw/hex type. Does anyone know if MB ever used the screw/hex clamps on the earlier W123s?

I bought the car 25 years ago at 138K miles and have never changed the boots, so they appear to be original.
