1971 280SE W108 wipers don't park

I've searched the forum and struck out. I know I've read about this but can't find it.

I acquired a 1971 280SE that was originally a Euro car. I have a problem with the windshield washer and windshield wipers.

1. Wipers don't park. They just stop wherever they are when I turn them off. Why?

2. This car has an electric washer pump. Is that normal? If I press on the frog it causes the water to pump electrically. I realize that the frog is supposed to activate intermittent wipers and that possibly someone has re-purposed that switch to power an electric pump, and in doing so caused the park feature of the wipers to not work

3. What do people use for replacement wiper refills without ending up with black wiper blades?

Thoughts?
thanks
Scott

I'm not familiar specifically with MB wiper motors, but most wiper motors have a contact inside that makes them park. Basically there is a wire that has power all the time with the ignition on, and inside the wiper motor there is a contact (switch) that is only broken when the wipers are down. So when you turn the wipers off the motor runs on this circuit unti it is switched off because the wipers are down.
Either the switch inside the motor is bad, or the wire that is supposed to be on all the time is not on.

I ordered metal (silver) wiper blades online, I'm sure they are available from a variety of vendors.
