Vacuum lines disconnected
Purchased a 71 250. while under the hood i noticed the red and white vacuum lines to the distributor were unhooked and just wedged in a gap. any particular reason or trick behind why someone would do this?
also found vacuum line disconnected from front carb, this may have been an accident. |

it just takes the vacuum advance/retard mechanism out of the equation. You are operating on mechanical advance only. No real reason to disconnect them unless the diaphragms are bad. The lines should be plugged though.
No idea which vacuum line from the carb is unplugged or why with the minimal details given. You are probably correct with the accident guess.

Hi Don,
Can you post a photograph of the situation you are describing? Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. By the way, Welcome to the Forum! It is a tradition for new members to post a picture of their car and tell us a little about yourself. Are you new to Mercedes? How did you fall under the amorous spell of your Classic car? Best regards, Jeffrey

Mike and Jeff, two old cyber pals, you have the experts on the case!
My 2 cents, a lot of folks disconnect the vacuum advance because the timing is off, get everything connected and then start at the basics - gap plugs, points, set timing
