odometer squeal
My 1969 280SL's odometer is starting to let out a squealing sound. More noticable in colder weather. While it is squealing, the needle is acting erratically. My first guess is that it needs a new odometer cable. Is this an over the counter purchase or a special order? Is this easy to replace or considered difficult?

First try lubing the speedo shaft end, where the cable connects, with a few drops of automatic trans fluid. Since I did my '72 250, 12 years ago it's been silent.
Happy Motoring, Mark
