W115 to W123 compatible parts
Hi from Portugal Gents,
I have found (but not yet bought) a W115 240D that isn't rusty where it matters! I'm not too shocked because even 40 yr old Jap cars still survive in the Algarve. The problem is the car's lack of use. The brakes are all stuck, & just in case it isn't just a pad & pin issue I want to know how many brake bits (ie calipers) from my rusty W123 300D will fit. I got as far as page 19 without seeing anything relating, but it isn't unknown for me to miss the flamin' obvious Any info/thoughts much appreciated. Thxs Hedge |

I would compare part numbers between the two. Look up the parts on this site...compare the choices/parts #'s. If you see a part on your 123 that has a 115 on it, then you can be reasonable sure it is interchangeable.

although the castings are the same, and the pistons & seals the same, and the pins & pads the same, and the mounting dimensions the same, the hydraulic fittings may be in different locations. Most rear axle components will interchange directly, including trailing arms and brake assemblies. Power trains will interchange with some attention to the location of oil filter and finding the correct oil pan for a 115/300D. |

"The calipers of both cars are essentially the same"
Great. Thxs Frank. It's the extreme event of having calipers that are scrap that concerns me. This takes the pressure off. You wouldn't believe the bureaucratic hassle involved in ressurecting a car when the annual inspection has expired!! Thxs for taking the trouble to respond guys. Much obliged. I hope this purchase works out as I am looking at a w115 with totally rust free sills, chassis rails, floor, and....bulkhead!!. Amazing. |

Thxs Mark.
I have heard that the fronts needed to be swapped over & longer hoses fitted too. Oh well, better than zero swap-ability. |
