What does this do?
Hello,
I'm hoping you can help on this one…I bet you can. I have put a couple of pics below, from the engine bay of my '71 280se w111. Firstly, can someone please tell me what the two fuses are for? Secondly, should I not have something connected to the one nearest the wing/fender? If so, what, and where does it go? Whilst trying to chase down a no spark ignition I saw the empty connector on the 2nd pic, down by the ignition transistor box…does it connect to that? If not, should that be connected to something else? Thanks a lot. Dave |

Great minds think alike (can't stand those stand alone fuses; esp. when I can't locate my haynes manual)...I think we need
a detective on this cold case. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/vintage-mercedes/371904-help-identifying-fuse-71-250-a.html

After going cross eyed trying to decipher the mono wiring diagram, I think the fuses might be either for the electric fan or the power windows. But I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will help.

I think the first picture is the fuse for the radio. I don't know what the second is.

Dont know what they are used for but i would take off each wire one at a time ,clean up with a little emery paper , fuses as well . Wipe lightly WD40 them wipe off exess and refit .Plus i would find some sort of plastic box to cover them from the wet and damp . I think they did start life with a cover on top of them

Perhaps a photograph showing a larger area would help us to determine where in the engine compartment these components are located. Additionally, it is not uncommon to find part of the wiring to be installed in a car even if the option it is intended to serve is not present. For example, the fuses controlling electrical power to the radio and antenna may be present even though the the car was not radio equipped.
