No power at coil w111
G'day,
As a fan of Occam's razor, I would like to start with the most likely/simplest reason for having no power on either side of the coil on my w111 3.5. With the ignition in position 2, I have nowt on either terminal. I have cleaned every connection I can find, but I am getting nothing at the coil. Car will turn fine on the starter. Is there any sort of lock out switch I should be hunting down? All fuses are good. Bear in mind the beast has sat for 26 years, if that matters. I've searched on here, and learned a lot about the ignition system, but I thought I may as well ask for potential reasons, thanks. Dave |
Possible defective ignition switch or wiring. With a car that has been sitting for 25 years there is a strong possibility that mice have eaten through a wire or two. You might try a temporary jumper wire from the pos battery to the pos side of the coil and see if the engine starts.

Well….26 years, a fuel pump, fuel system total replacement, new ignition system (pertronix) new leads, plugs, rotor, rebuilt dizzy, tps, throttle linkages, rebuilt cold start valve, 9 freed up injectors, filters, fluids, rebuilt relays, all electrical connections refreshed later….it still wouldn't start. Until I retimed the dizzy and then BOOM. First turn of the key. Bit smoky but otherwise sounds sweet as a nut. Am hoping the smoke is all the crap from the various systems finding their way out of the motor. Either way, it is a happy day.
