NLA = No Longer Available - Brake Booster Seal

Hi Peaches,

I am preparing to rebuild my Brake Booster. One of the parts I need is No Longer Available. I checked our host Pelican Parts. I tried the Mercedes Benz Classic Center. I tried some external sources.

The part I need is 001 997 55 40. It is a square cross section o-ring that seals the jam nut to the slave and keeps brake fluid inside.

If you know where I can get one or twelve. Please send me a PM instead of posting here out of respect for Pelican Parts.

Thank you in advance!

Jeffrey

Hi Peaches,

Thank you!

I asked for and received Private Message with links to websites.

I googled and saw the same thing you did before I posted. There are many websites that accept the part number, show a price and let you load the shopping cart, but they are sourcing from Mercedes Benz Parts. I called several and they don't stock it and can't get it. Our host also shows the part but sources from Mercedes Benz; I called and was politely given the bad news.

I appreciate you taking the time look for me. If you find someone selling the part please call and ask if they can touch one with their hand. If they offer to check with Mercedes Benz the outcome is already known; NLA.

I can get one from the dealership here

0019975540

Costs about 8 euros including tax.

I will post on if you want.

But I guess there must be someone closer to you with one. Google the number and ye shall see.

If you want my help just say (PM)

Hi Stretch,

Can the dealer touch it? I have had several dealers say they can get it, then they come back later with apologies. How many do they have in stock? I have two boosters to rebuild.

Thank you very much. I can't find this part in the U.S.

Jeffrey

I've just sent an email to them to make sure.

The database in Germany is still giving a price for it and in my experience unless someone has just bought the last one yesterday the information in the database is good.

Well - I'll be %$%#%#%!

Dealership got back to me and said despite the listing in the German database it is indeed NLA.

I was a bit over confident. Usually the database is a good indicator. I reckon the number of requests might have woken up the Mercedes spares beast though.

Seeing as this part really and truly is NLA - I see no reason why the following link should not be posted.

These people =>

C&C Parts BV

Are often quite helpful if you can't find brake parts.

If I know all the particulars, I can have a batch made by a rubber and plastics molding company here. They have made Citroen unobtainium parts as well.

Hey Jeffrey (as per PM) I've been in touch with someone but they don't seem to be able to trace the MB part number back to something that is meaningful to them. Can you supply a link or a picture to the position of the part please?

(Car type would also be of use - I can guess from your signature but might be wrong!)

Hello Peaches,

I may have found the seal here in the USA. I spoke with someone who specializes in Brake Booster rebuild kits. He sent a photo of the booster seal with dimensions. This may be the last seal he has in stock. So he may be using this one as a pattern for having a batch made, if it is indeed the last one. He had some on order that came in but he wants to get them in his hand before he would sell me a kit. This is a very hopeful development.

The rubber has to be a type that Brake Fluid will not dissolve or decay.

Square ( lathe cut ) seals can be made by a company called EPM. I had gotten a quote from them for some industrial stuff.

The rubber needs to be compatible with brake fluid. What company makes the booster? There has to be other brands that use this kind of setup. ( British cars come to mind. )

Also have a look at street rod parts companies, new remote boosters are sold but would take some mods to make it fit.
