Proper fluids for 115 240D

What would be the proper brake fluid for a 75 240D. The book just says "brake fluid". Should it use dot4 like the newer models?

What about for the power steering system. The book just says ATF but doesn't specify type. I have heard that the addatives used in current dexron III make that type unsuitable. Use another type of ATF, or switch to conventional power steering fluid?

Thanks

Hey TX. Yours is looking good. Nelliebelle is shining up pretty good also. I believe the paint on these old ones is 10 times better than 123's. Do you mean dot3 or dot4 brake fluid? I still have a bunch of things to fix, and not much time to work on it. Main thing right now is getting it ready for state inspection (which includes notching the turn signal detents). Other than that, just a whole bunch of little things need fixing. Looking forward to the next shindig so I can show it off.

Not sure on the differences, perhaps a higher boiling point for DOT 4. On the 560 I switched to Valvoline synthetic DOT3/DOT4 (that's what is says on the label) which has a boiling point of 512*F. It seems to work just fine in that car and I plan on putting it in the 4.5 next fluid change.

Palangi, on both I run regular old everyday power steering fluid, nothing special. The additives in the current formulation of DexronIII are likely not good for the seals in older power steering systems and I really hate to take that chance given the fact that steering pumps on the oldies are a bit pricey. The dealer is fetching in excess of $650 for a rebuilt Vickers pump.

Bill, that 240 sure did clean up nice. I looked through all of your before shots, really looked like it was going to be the blasse tan not a vibrant yellow. Looking good.

Thanks Mike. That's basically what I am doing with the 84, so will do the same with the 75.
