Hey JuiceMan,

I just saw your article/ad on the MBCA magazine. Good luck selling the car. She's a beauty; I hope it goes to a great home just like you (and I'm sure most of us) want!

The plot thickens... It is not on Craigslist. If it gets listed I will be the first to mention it.

Baxter,

Take a screen shot of the ad and share it with us?

NO WAY! The article's story sounded and the photos looked to me just like JuiceMan's car. Page 19 on this month's issue of The Star.

Good read Baxter thank you for posting the article. I certainly see how some of the details sound similar!

The details in the article are similar...

Rebuilding that Big Six engine can be an expensive item. The fact that the chassis only has 6,000 kilometers does not mean you can just fill up the tires and pour gasoline in. Imagine if the engine sat for at least 10 years, then someone charged the battery and put a gallon of gas in the tank, then started cranking the dry engine and it started without lubrication and then seized, then sat for 20 more years. The risk with this rare and expensive of type car is way beyond my capacity.

Replacing tasty interior bits like leather seat covers, seat pads, dash leather, door cards, carpet and headliner would be expensive or very expensive depending on materials and quality workmanship. I wonder if critters also ate the wood trim?

I would love to own one of these someday... Lottery gods, if you want to laugh for many years please pick me.

I have owned one of these cars, actually two. Both gone now. They are expensive to maintain, but the biggest issue is getting past the thieves who find old used parts and sell them at outrageous prices for new.

That's why I got out. It's easier to pay less and buy a Rolls. Which I may do! I now have made the tooling to repair their hydropneumatic suspension.

But I am looking at buying a farm to retire and produce my own diesel fuel as I restore the rest of the cars, so one thing at a time.

Just a quick update. I have yet to be able to extract the 300 from its hibernation zone. Reason being is im going to have to literally dig out around the car so that I can get underneath it and remove the driveshaft. I cannot get the transmission into neutral (seized) and do not want to risk damaging anything.

Good news is I have a mechanic friend coming over in a few days to inspect the engine better with a bore scope and some other equipment. We are not going to attempt to turn it over however just want to get a better idea of it's internal condition.

Title situation is all lined out though and the car is 100% in my name

Get a hold of ( or make ) 2 sets set of tow truck dolly wheels, ( not a 1/2 trailer tow dolly ) this way you can move the car without a wheel turning.

These are made from two 8" rim trailer wheels per side and two bars that go across to the other side of the car. Pretty pricey to buy but something could be whipped up to get the job done. Tow Dollies - Self-Loading Dollies and Speed Dollies | AW Direct

That would work very well actually, I know a guy that has one set of those. Maybe I could put a set under the back of the car and that would keep me from having to remove the drive shaft as well as the frozen rear brakes. The car does steer with some effort but I would assume the front brakes are probably stuck as well. I will be removing the entire drum from each side of the front and putting them into safe keeping as well as the shoes. Thanks for the tip.

It’s been a long time since my last update. Unfortunately I’ve been very busy. However I have good news I have cleared all of the junk inside the barn from around the W189 and cleared a path for it to be brought out. Here’s a picture from this morning.
