Umm, or did I???

I got an offer impossible to resist, and said YES.

Told my wife about the 1978 280SE expecting volcanic fury.

Her answer was a big grin and one word "MINE"...

We transfered the title to her name, and got a license plate this afternoon.

She has graciously given me permission to work on the car.

OK all aside - lets clear the field here....

Teach me how did you get the Mrs module to agree to this.

When I start the attempt her entire CAN-BUS goes down - all patience modules shut down and logs of old rants and expenses start to issue from the Mrs Module.

The A/C and climate control is perfect + it has a NEW evil servo.

It has not been driven or cleaned in three months.

THE LIST of NEEDS:

* Four tires
* New exhaust system
* Alternator belt
* New battery
* Fuel filter
* Air filter
* Oil change + filter
* Minor brake work + flush
* Diagnose window inop
* New interior

Most of this will be done in the next four days.

How does the MB Tex on the rear seat and the driver's front door card get all wrinkled like that?

Looking forward to seeing pics of this car fixed and cleaned up.

The front door cards are stuffed with a black open cell foam so that hot air from the heater can flow through them. The foam breaks down over the years. The foam in the rear door cards is a sturdier white type that lasts much longer.

The coconut fiber pads in the rear seat dissolve from moisture leaking in from the rear window, so the seat skins are resting on the metal frames. The cloth backing that holds in the tuck-and-roll padding strips also dissolves, so the seat looses its definition and becomes a sagging mess.

Typically the entire rear seat has to be replaced. I was able to find a nearly rust-free rear seat from a forum member in Texas, and had it shipped to where I used to live in Washington. Though the coconut fiber pads are still in decent condition, I no longer have the cloth backing on the seat skins, so my padding strips are falling out all over the place and my seat still looks wrinkly. I need new seat skins to fix the problem.

Lucky! Don't forget to unfreeze the aux water pump connected to it...unless it has been replace...and if it starts acting up, you need a new computer behind the glove box...don't forget about the foam sensor tube too!

Yeah the same thing happened to my w123. The skins were in great shape...but all the pads turned to dust and so did all the stitching that help the cardboard strips on...and the foam...funny thing is...the bottom back seat cushion had the rubberized pad and so did the back of the drivers seat....but all the rest was untreated....what I read is that Mercedes just used what ever was on the self....no reason on what they used with what...

I have worked on many.

IMO they are a good engine, usually easier to repair than the V8's.
Good engine bay access for general maintenance.
Durability is good for a gasoline engine.

I think she was just thrilled because it isn't a diesel
