It is possible to replace only the torsion spring fitted inside the door latch, it is the flat, round spring that helps "return" the interior door latch when operated. Also, can this be done with the latch in place as the spring is visible (on my '62 220se) or is that wishful thinking as I can assume?

I read your post yesterday and don't have the specific answer. Do you have a subscription to Mercedes EPC? You may be able to use the EPC to get a part number.

I recently parted out a W111 sedan. I took the driver's door completely apart. It was not that difficult of a job but it was time consuming. You could probably replace the spring in two or three hours.

Hi and thanks. I use a Mac and that used to mean no EPC access, is that still the case? I have taken my doors apart many times to inspect, clean, or repair inside so that would actually be an enjoyable job for me, just curious if there was a quicker way or if I can switch the spring once the whole latch assembly is out if needed. Thanks for the info so far!

The EPC uses a JAVA plug-in. I don't know if Chrome browser has JAVA or Mac supports JAVA?

Do you have a replacement spring or a photo of it?

I'll do some investigating to see if I can access with that info.

I don't have an actual pic but this is a spring that's similar (random online image), and as I recall you can see it in the latch while it is on the vehicle when you open the door. I'll try and snap a pic when I'm with the car next.
