w108 Neutral safety switch swap. but my reverse lights don't work now. doh!

So my Mechanic sorted out my transmission. Column shift selects gears nicely now. And my favorite part... I can finally start in Park instead of neurtral since he swapped the neutral safety switch.
(I gave him a spare used neutral safety switch to install that i had laying around.)

I noticed now that my reverse lights don't work.

Also, I don't have the option to start in neutral anymore. 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

Does this mean that the neutral safety switch is defective?

Here's what the inside of my neutral safety switch looked like. i cleaned up the terminals. i'll get installed this weekend. and report back.

When taking apart be sure to note which terminal goes where. they are marked X and O. and they are different lengths. and don't lose the springs!

Your switch is a completely different design than mine was (perhaps a newer revision?)

Hopefully you got it all good. I assume you tested with a multimeter for 0 ohms in park & neutral on the start circuit, and 0 ohms in reverse in the reverse circuit. Now, when installing, install it so that the backup lights go on in reverse and the other two gears should work by default (that's what worked for me, and I then did the same when replacing my old XJ Cherokee's).

Yes must be a revised model. Because i checked the part number and it is the same as what they are currently offering for sale online.

lol. i dont have a multimeter. but i do see why it wasn't working. the contacts had crud on it. i guess this will be trial and error! hahaha

is it a pain to remove and replace? this is a spare switch that came with the car when i bought it..
