Resurrecting 1972 280 SEL 4.5, Small Engine Parts Needed
Hello Peachparts!
I was recently given a 1972 280SEL, the reason(s) why she didn't cost me anything is mostly due to the owner swapping out the seized 4.5 M117 with a 3.5 M116 from a 300. The body is fantastic, the M116 is installed. Clearly their project ran out of puff, and now I've been given this challenge. Long story short, the D-Jetronic system, complete with 3.5 Brain is there and intact; there's a bunch of smallish items that are missing, and I am writing here in the hopes that someone has a M116/M117 parts car (or parts). For starters, I'm missing the threaded nozzle on the back passenger side of the intake manifold - this supplies vacuum to the D-Jet Manifold Pressure Sensor mounted on the splash wall. I also appear to be missing the fitting that secures the oil pressure sensor line that sends signal to the oil pressure gauge. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Best, -James |

now is the time to reconsider the choice of v8. You can swap a 3.5 for the original 4.5 since you already have it, or you could find a 5.0 motor and put that in.
BTW, the 3.5 and 4.5 harnesses are slightly different as is the brain box (different throttle position wiring). swap them around too if you can. Or consider scrapping the FI system and use a megaquirt. -CTH |
