111.021 4 speed into a 111.024??

I have a 64 220 SEb coupe that is pretty much a parts car. it has a 4 speed in it.

My question, is that 4 speed set up the same as in a 69 280 SE coupe?
Will that set up work in my 280?
What is different?
Will any of it work in the 280?
If not does anyone have the set up I can put in my 280?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeff

Will be straight forward switch of a bunch of parts. Keep the parts car around until you're done. -cth

Do you know if the 220 flywheel is the same as the 280?

Is there anything else I would need that is not on the 220?

The 220 Flywheel is not the same as the 280. Your original question was regarding the transmission from the 220 which is compatible with the 280.

Is something wrong with the flywheel on the 280 motor? The flywheels used with the 280SE M127 engine were crank shaft balanced as a unit together; M180 engine flywheel not balanced to the engine crank shaft.

If you do a search you can find many conversations on this topic.

Jeff I should have know that. Brain fart. I just want to make sure I have all of the parts to put the 220 4 speed into the 280. 280 is an automatic currently. So pedals, slave, driveshaft should all be interchangeable?

For the most part... The chassis should accept the parts from the 220.

One thing I thought of... Some of the early 220 cars have the reverse light electronics in the steering column and later models have electronic switch in the gearbox. You will see a black wire coming from the top of the transmission if switch is in gearbox.

I don't know if drive shaft is identical from automatic to manual. Good idea to check. I have not swapped automatic trans to manual. When I swapped motors, I used the existing transmission and it all worked.

I am not so sure about flywheel of automatic transmission work with manual transmission. It may or may not work; my answer and my experience based on swapping motors to the 220 manual gear box. If your 220SE motor has the transmission attached that is a good thing.

Won't the automatic have a thin flexplate, and the manual a thicker flywheel? The flexplate and flywheel are not the same, even for the same engine.
