Angry Stuck Hood Latch

Boy I'm just chocked full of questions..

The hood on the parts car is stuck. A frienmd of mine awas sketching the engine for an art project and I lef thim unattended. Anyhow after he left I went out to take a look at something unde rhte hood and found that he had closed the hood. I pulled the release which did not feel locked and went around to open the hood and found that the latch on the right side was hooked but not locked in the middle. I tried to push the hood down so that I could maybe pull unhook the latch but was not able to push it down and get my finger under there at the same time.

I've have been meaning to put a label there that says "don't slam the hood" on my other car because so many clumsy service guys have slammed the hood that the latch is pretty much ruined. Anyway the latch on this car is not bent but somehow I can't release the latch!!! .. maybe if I could get a piece of wire around it I might beable to puch down on the hood from above and pull it back from below???

Any ideas???

Adrian

I keep having to adjust the cable on mine, I pull the lever and very little happens. If I get someone to pull the lever whilst pushing down on the hood, it seems to be enough to release it.

That would have worked because I could see that the latch controlled by the release cable was not engaged.

I finally use a a screwdriver to push the hood hook (whatever it's called ) back.

Once I had the hood open I saw thta I had left the distributer cover sitting on top of the battery and that was what was keeping me from pushing donw the hood enough to release the hook.

I think I'm still going to put a sticker under the hood that says don't slam!!

While we are on the subject. How do you get the hood open when the cable is broken? I have found this a lot at the salvage and don't want to wreck the hood to open it, usually just find another car for parts.
