W111 Finny - 4 Speed Column linkage - Procedure to Adjust
Does anyone have or can point me to a step by step on adjustment of steering column shift points, linkage tolerances, ect.. Reverse is hard to get to and the others a little sloppy . I reviewed the manuals I have but I can not make head or tails out of them:rolleyes::o , this is a 62 I suspect an early version

The Ponton group has a PDF copy of the 622 page workshop manual that would include adjustment instructions for the column shifting linkage. One of the things I like about this manual is the index at the beginning that says which group and sub-group to find information. thanks Jeff, I looked there , and there is some info but nothing specific on adjustment procedure, especially reverse issues?

what I have been reading about but cant seem to find a procedure is alignment of the shift rods at the bottom of steering column. Suppose to be a 6 mm hole in each levers . You somehow align these ??
and then there is discussion about shift bushings within the steering shaft ? that if worn make reverse hard to find , which is the biggest issue right now |
Pull up on chrome nut at base of shift lever as you pull up lever to find reverse, and check the condition of plastic bushing under chrome nut. If that bushing is gone there will be a lot of slop.

thanks, I will take a look, I assume that if I remove the bottom of the steering tunnel I will be able to visualize these levers and bushings?

Don't adjust anythjng. You need new bushings. If the horn hasn't started blowing everytime you shift it probably will at some point. Replace the shift lever bushing, the bushing at the top of the shaft (this is not a bad job), and the shift bushings at the transmission. There are two sizes so you will have to check which ones you have. You may also want to replace the bushings at the front end of the shift rods. I think the bushings are NLA so you will probably have to replace the shift rod ends. Again, make sure you get the right size because there are at least two sizes. EPC is your friend.

do you get to it through the top end after steering wheel removal? The shift bushings at the front end are new, the ones on and around the tranny are solid without slop as far as I can tell. One thought I had was to adjust reverse shift rod to a longer setting? One other thing, when I unscrewed the shift arm chrome nut , and removed to take a look I did not see a bushing. I read about one in that area , but I saw none?

Get that bushing under the chrome nut. It is round and fits on the ball on the shift lever and moves inside the chrome nut.

Ok will do , anyone with and EPC picture of what bushings I need to find, I have several pictures, but no parts and not quite the right year or model car

ok here is my set up. I assume the bushing is suppose to be under the snap ring on the right, where the shift column attaches, perhaps one behind. the second picture is the shift arm, no bushing there ? the last as the column goes into floor board, nothing there, Are these the locations of the infamous bushings?

Bushing Replacement
See this post on the M100 board. It explains in detail how to change the bushings on the column mounted gear shift lever mechanism.

yes , thanks, but that is a bit different than my set up is a 62 , that is a 68 but perhaps I can follow and modify as I go

I see from your pic your bushing under the chrome nut has turned to dust. 111 268 03 92. DO that first.
