1976 300D A/C bracket removal?
So, I finally have more spare time to tinker with the Mercedes. I would like to move the A/C compressor (on its bracket) out of the way so that I can access the alternator for removal.
I have removed the belt and one nut from near the intake, two by the engine mount, and one bolt from the belt tensioner area, yet the bracket will not budge, even with gentle prybar persuasion. Am I overlooking another attachment somewhere? (I already have another post about the alt and I have received great help. But this dang bracket is slowing my progress.....) |

On my '72 W115 gas 220, (and possibly the diesel versions too) The AC bracket was also bolted on at the waterpump.
Happy Motoring, Mark

There's a part of the bracket on the front that is a raised price of metal that runs horizontally acros the bracket. A Bolt hides under there.

Thanks!
I'll try and find that hidden bolt this weekend.
Update: Got it! Found the last bolt, moved A/C and managed to wiggle the alternator free. Not a very easy job, for sure. Now off to the parts place to have it tested. Thanks again! Last edited by 300decel; 09-02-2016 at 09:46 PM. |

Following this same path on the same car; removed the OP's referred bolts, the hidden bolt under the flange AND a bolt behind the water pump pulley (for a total of six nuts and bolts), and the bracket is still holding tight. Do I have a mythical and rare 34-bolt AC bracket? What am I missing?
EDIT: Oh, wait, there are two behind the water pump pulley. Bracket is still not budging. Last edited by EmmyJ; 09-11-2016 at 08:58 AM. |

Nuts!
I sure wish I could help...I know how bummed I was not realizing the "hidden" bolt was holding me up. My alt failed the Autozone bench test, so a rebuilt Remy unit should go in today (if I get off my rear). Hope your project is moving along.
