1970 250C - What is it worth

I have a chance to purchase this car and I am wondering in general what the going price is on a nice runner with no major rust or mechanical issues?

Jim-
Unfortunately, prices can be all over the place, depending on condition. Mercedes Motoring sells these sorts of cars for $25K, but you can also find them for $3K on craigslist. If you can wait 2 days, you can follow the auction linked below to get an idea of the market price for a decent 250C.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it. Still trying to decide if I want to pick it up. The transmission is slipping, but I also noticed that no fluid was showing on the stick. I need to see if adding fluid will help the slipping problem. If not, I'll probably pass on the deal.

Ok, so it looks like the car will need a little work (horn fixed, washer foot pump and an exhaust leak) before I can buy it. the total for the car including the repair work will be around 1500.00. When they added tranny fluid the car drove fine. The car has new tires and battery. The interior is in good shape, but I believe the AC blower is not working. No major rust that I can see except for some slight surface rust in the trunk. Good paint and chrome.

Do you guys think 1500.00 is a fair price?

Thanks for your input - Jim

My 2 cents: I had a 1971 250 c for a number of years. It was in good condition, no rust, good driver, good paint. A/C didn't work. I sold it to a visiting professor from Germany and he shipped it back. I think the price was $4000, and it was probably 5 or 10 years ago.

The problem/advantage of the W114 coupe is it is IMHO incredibly undervalued. It is a really nice car yet there is virtually no market for it.

Having said that - consider the costs to fix one up... Door/window rubber is unique to the cars and expensive. Painting a car is expensive. If this car needs paint, mechanical, etc then it's better to pay more for a better car. If this car is presentable the way it is, and if you have no plans to "restore" it, then it's a good deal. But given the depressed market on these coupes, if you want a really nice show car it would be cheaper to buy a depressed market restored car than to get a $1500 car to that level of beauty.
