Need Help with Bleeder Valve Replacement - 1972 280SE 4.5

Hi guys,

Hope everyone's had a great summer. I embarked on a BIG project with my W108 and it's almost complete. Pictures coming soon!

I need to replace my car's bleeder valve. The part number is A1074700693. The valve doesn't exist anymore. MBCC hasn't had one in over five years, FleaBay has none listed.

Has anyone come across the need to replace one of these and what have you used as a replacement?

The valve is bolted to the undercarriage about half way between the gas tank and the engine compartment. My understanding is that is controls air coming into and out of the gas tank and fuel lines. Here's a pic of what it looks like.

Jose

Rich, thanks for the offer. My concern is that the valve might have a filter of sorts that would be affected by age. Mine is shot so my mechanic is gonna take it apart to see what's inside of it.

I'll keep you posted on what we find (and if a used one would suffice as a replacement) and keep your offer in mind.

Thanks!

Jose

Post this over in the SL section if you can't find a good one. With a 107 part number it was likely used on the SL's until at least 1980.

Bax:

A similar looking, but functionally identical, valve was used on W114/115/116 gas engined cars. It is indeed a fuel tank vent valve, that functions to direct fuel vapors, in cars thru '73, to the crankcase for storage, and from '74 onwards to a charcoal canister. The use of that valve may have continued into the W123s.
In cars delivered into areas where evaporative controls were not used, the line from the tank terminated (at the point where the valve is) in a simple screened vent fitting.

I found a dealer that claims to have one in stock. I will PM you on this.

They list this as being for US model SL's, years 1981 to 1985. There is no photo but the part number is the one you posted.

When you get to their site then plug the part number in the search box and the info will come up.

Their price is 139.20 here in September of 2016.

Why do you need to replace?
