W111 heater valve help please

Hello all,

I need to do some work on my leaking heater valves. 280se w111 1970 coupe. They were pretty seized and gentle loosening has resulted in them leaking. I have read various links on here but cannot seem to find a walk through anywhere..maybe there is a similar approach to another car (w108 for example). Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Dave

Dave,

I googled "w108 heater valve rebuild" and found some interesting articles, and a few old forum threads.

You can access the valves themselves by pulling the glovebox liner/panel interior. The valves will need circlip removers, then you just pull them straight out. The rings to seal may be special order thru the dealer only.

Thanks both. Further research has thrown up a few pointers, such as using a spark plug to help get them out. Doesn't look as onerous as first feared. Thanks for the replies.

Haven't done this repair myself, but one point I've noted is to mark the valves before they come out as to orientation. There are many different ways they can go in; only one is correct.

Found these on Pelican:

Mercedes-Benz 220/230/280/300 Sedan (1960-1967) W111 W112 - Heater System - Page 1

Apparently the same o-ring crosses to W114/W115. There are two o-rings used, though, and I cannot find reference to the smaller one that goes on the valve's shaft. I've rebuilt these a couple times and sourced the o-rings through a gasket/seal shop in Albuquerque.

Attached photo shows both o-rings on a W114/W115 valve assembly.
