1975 w116 280S fuel filter location

Hello all, can anyone tell me where the fuel filter is on my 280S? Also I would like to replace upper control arm bushings and I am a little confused..I see kits that come with both control arms and 4 outer control arm bushings..Do I need 2 outer and 2 inner or 4 outer? Dont want to seem stupid but that kit confuses me..also on Ebay I see people selling outer bushings saying that 4 are required..My car is carbureted btw im sure it will affect location of fuel filter

You will have a filter that screws into the floor of the gas tank.
I'll post a photo later.
If your car is carb and not injection then there might be or you can fit an in-line filter.
On my 107 280 the internal gas tank filter was 99% blocked but replacements are not expensive. It does however mean draining the gas tank completely .
I'll post a photo soon.

Injection systems have this unit under the rear end plus in tank filter.

There are 2 screens in your vehicle. One is as Andy mentioned in the bottom of the fuel tank and the other is where the fuel line enters the carb. Because they are screens instead of filters, small particles can get into the fuel bowl.

Many people add an inline filter under the hood before the fuel return valve to give additional protection.

Draining the tank will be the biggest job involved.
Can only suggest you do it vety carefully.

Thank you guys for your responses..so as far as putting an aftermarket in line filter, I install that on the line that brings gas into the carb correct? And as far as the other one on bottom of gas tank..do they make a special socket for that one.I changed the one on my 79450sl..that one wasn't so bad but if I had right tool it would have been easier..

Mercedes will sell you a 'special socket' for it but you don't need to go that way. I cant remember what size fits but there is a thread somewhere on the site that details it.
I will be changing my car to carb and dumping my K jet, just because I know carbs better than injection.
Look for the thread I started on it and there's good ideas from others in that thread including return lines and pressures etc.

Thread I started is on page two of the list of threads.
Headed Injection to carbs. Has a good answer on return line system. Inline filter for sure should be just before the carb/carbs.

Thank you all for all your replies...I appreciate it very much

Re control arms.
Eu terminology is a bit different from USA. 😊
Do you mean what we would call wishbone upper and lower?
Or what we would call steering arms and ball-joints?
😆
On the 'wishbones' you will have 2 upper and two lower press in bushes and one upper and one lower bolt in ball joints. I think!!
Steering arms I reckon is easier to buy replacements rather than trying to fit new bushes.
Need comments from others on this one though.

Post a photo of the old ones.

Cheers.

When a W116 control arm kit is supplied, each side will be equipped with the inner bushing(s) installed, and the ball joint installed. There are two loose rubber bushings per side also supplied; those are for the connection of the sway bar to the control arm(s). So, a kit for both sides will contain two control arm assemblies, and four sway bar bushings.

Yes Frank those loose rubber bushings are what i was thinking about.. Those bushings do not need to be pressed on or anything do they? From whast thery look like it dont seem like it but nothing would surprise me..Thank you guys for your help..
