W110 Pinion Seal Replacement
I've got all the parts together (including the special 36 mm socket) to replace the leaking pinion seal on the rear-end of my W110, and plan to do so some time this weekend.
From what I have heard, the W108 has a similar drive shaft/rear-end setup ad the W110/111. Is there anything I should look out for, from others who have done this job? I have heard recommendations to, in the re-assembly state, replicate the pinion nut's original position by marking it and counting number of turns to prevent mis-shaping the bearing crush sleeve. I will also be replacing the rubber flex disk and a few other bits (center bearing, etc.) on the drive shaft. If I remember right, some of those jobs require a very large adjustable wrench, which I have. |

I did mine a while back and do remember you need to to have the car siting on it's wheels, or rear suspension loaded, before you tighten that big nut on drive shaft. That sets drive shaft static length.
