123 Ignition

I am ready to buy the 123 Ignition system for my 1971 280se 6 cyl 2.8. I would like to know if this distributor
is plug and play or do I have to tune it. I have checked several posts, with no conclusive definite answer.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

With all respect, what problem(s) are you encountering that suggest replacement of the distributor is in order? And what is "123 Ignition"; some might be inclined to think that a distributor from one of various engines that were installed in W123s is your objective.

I installed the 123 Ignition on the same engine and I did not have any problems. You will need a timing light to correctly set the timing. Just follow the directions for setting it up. Disconnect all the old stuff and I would get a new coil and plug wires. For those who do not know what the 123 Ignition is look it up. it is a superior modern ignition system when compared to a fifty year old system.

The 123 ignition system is a great upgrade as it makes points on the original distributor obsolete.
I am not having any problems with my car, but I want to do away with that old technology.

So does Pertronix, at 25% of the price. Pertronix also retains the original advance curve.

true to a certain extent "if it ain't broke" but the technology is ancient with points.

IIUC, 123 does not need the distributor trigger points. Pertronix does.

I got a programmable 123 for an E-Type Jaguar. I noticed they also have the non-programable.

Ask them directly on their site. 123ignition

123ignition
This is non-programmable. you can choose between 16 pre-set curves. The unit offers a maximum total of 16 advance-curves to be selected by the end-user.

This version has the required trigger outputs for Bosch D-Jetronic injection engines.

On the contrary, Pertronix eliminates the ignition points and substitutes a Hall Effect pick-up for the points.

I have Pertronix installed, but IIUC the trigger points (down the distributor) are not replaced. Just the ignition points and condenser.

I mean this:

Introducing mention of D-Jetronic trigger points is a red herring.
The OP's subject engine is equipped with mechanical fuel injection, not EFI.

I need to know, did you get the 6-R-V unit or the 6-R-V-IE? I am confused as to what unit to get. Please give me your input.
