R107 I6 vs V8 chassis

Anyone know if the subframes and engine bays are the same? I know the differentials are different and Im sure plenty of other bolt on parts are too.

Motivation behind this is my 450slc has 225,000 miles on it and the engine and trans are very tired. The car is pretty solid and worth saving though. I have a spare 3.6 M104 hanging around Id like to drop in. Wondering if I can collect m103 r107 mounts so I don't have to engineer that. I built a small block ford in a Toyota swap once. I don't want that again.

Subframes and engine bays are the same. I don't know if the motor mount arms are hard to come by or if they are very different than the more common m110 motor mount arms. M110 would probably be easier with far less electronics to bring over, but far less power too.

The mounting brackets actually look a lot like standard m103 ones from what I can find online. So hopefully that's an easy job if the frame accepts it.

I like the m104 because it makes more power, is more efficient, and parts are available. The downside is I would have to go to a standalone.

I know this is kinda old but, the gen 2(86 and up) 300sl has m103 in it. The m104 will bolt in with those mounts. Not saying there won't be any issues with the big headed m104. The subframe should be the same, it's the same on early v8 and 6 cars. The mount arms may even be available from Mercedes still.

Oil pan may have to be r107 specific though. W124 or r129 will be way closer than w140.

The subframe is the same throughout r/C107 production. 560sl has the updated gusseted version and is "replaced by" number for all previous cars. the oilpan is the same as a w124. these m103 use it. 103.940,941,942,980,981,982,983.
