I am currently running original 14" steel wheels with caps. I want to get a nicer look.

You can probably get enough money to cover the new wheels by selling the originals. Those W108 wheels are hot items.

There was minimal information. I concluded that the wheel choices are limited to the original 14" size to maximum 15" wheels. I've read information from other sources noting the need to use spacers etc. when going over 15". Bottom line would be the original 14" wheels with caps or perhaps wheels from a w126 .

16x8 will fit if correct ET. There used to be a site dedicated to 108/109 wheel fitment but I think it's gone.
Found it: http://breastroker.tripod.com/MB_M100Wheels.html The site is really old and dated.
